Becoming People Who Build Thriving Relationships

Last week’s post spoke to bridging cultural and philosophical divides, as told through the story of my own Jewish-Catholic marriage. This made finding a thematically connected nonprofit a bit challenging, so I decided to choose one whose mission is to support healthy relationships. Because regardless of background, every relationship has to navigate differences in order to thrive. I was happy to learn about the highly-rated One Love Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to teaching young people how to recognize the signs of healthy and unhealthy relationships.

After Yeardley Love was killed by an ex-boyfriend, her family started One Love so others would not suffer a similar tragedy. Since then, One Love has guided over 100 million youth to understand what a healthy relationship looks like and how to recognize red flags. They offer compelling online content, including short, informative videos as well as in-person and virtual workshops. One Love has offices across the country, and they make it easy to get involved in a variety of ways.

One could argue that much of the discord in the world stems from unhealthy relationships, which produce unhealthy dynamics in families and beyond. Since “healthy relationships” isn’t a topic taught in school, I am grateful that One Love is stepping in to fill a deep need. I invite you to join me in supporting them and spreading the word about this heart-filled organization. If you have any young people in your life who might benefit from their work, encourage them to look at their Relationships 101 offering, or explore the possibility of hosting a workshop. When we all work to make healthy relationships a standard of expectation in the world, it sets everyone on the path to a better life.
